Danny Hammons /// shooting stars

Spreading the word and lifestyle of American Folk music from his home in Birmingham, Alabama, singer-songwriter Danny Hammons has been crafting music that reflects the human experience for as long as he can remember. With an easy going and melodic style of play, and a philosophical approach to his lyric writing, he continues to vocalize his deepest beliefs of the world around him as he sees it through a musical medium. Amongst his storied discography of narratively-driven work, possibly none shines through as clearly as his single “shooting stars.”

The pice begins with a slow tempoed collection of instrumentality that appear all at once and define the intentionality of the record. Being sure to construct the world of this song through their musicality, the various parts continue to take their tonal cues from one another, each one being given a clear role in the symphonic collection. After the structure of the music has been clearly defined, Hammons begins the narrative structure of the track as he robustly lays out his thesis with the opening line, “Shooting stars and UFOs all look the same from here, standing on the ground so far below. It really makes me think about how small we really are.”

A reminder to reexamine our role in the world and the importance of prioritizing one’s own life over existential thoughts, the single gives audiences a glimpse into the mind of the artist in deep and profound ways. Having accomplished so much with this release, fans can only wait with anticipation to see what could possibly be coming from this artist’s studio next.
