Dreamy Gals: 3 Tracks by Women Artists With Dreamy Atmospheres

The power of the feminine sometimes shines through the softness of the dreamier indie tracks and the wonders of creativity to be heard in music. Recently, so many women have been making so much good music, and that extends past the big industry artists. To celebrate all that women have brought to music lately, Popfad has collected some more atmospheric indie pop tracks that listeners may have missed in these searches. Check them out!

Rachel White – Denial

‘Denial’ is a dreamy indie pop track that builds an energetic sound off of a soft guitar intro with singing. Pretty quickly, some backing harmonies fill the space before percussion takes the stage for an initial rhythmic drive. Then, it pulls back to one guitar layer and vocals for a moment before adding another guitar layer and evolving into a synth basis. This track flows between a synth soundscape and a more band-like sound with full instrumentation. Though it starts soft, its sound starts to evolve pretty quickly, which holds listeners’ attention while they wait for the flow to pick up. ‘Denial’ is a track of missed opportunities and struggling to make things work while still fighting to achieve one’s dreams. It captures the tale of someone going through hurt and struggle while putting on a brave face and fighting forward.

Alexa Kate – What People Do

‘What People Do’ takes the dreamy sound and turns it up a notch with soft vocals and synths that sound like stars floating around in the sky. Instrumentally, this track fills itself with its synth sounds, and though it has a bit of a snappy pace, there’s a softness to the overall production that provides an introspective atmosphere. The vocals rest in a higher pitch with a breathy sound, but the mix pulls them to the forefront and allows their brighter tones to buzz along. This track has a soft beauty to it without the pace being too laid back, and the reverb makes it sound like each and every tone is floating around the soundspace. Lyrically, ‘What People Do’ tells a narrative of how rushed many relationships seem to be and what it’s like being someone who doesn’t want that rapid pace. It tells the story of someone comfortable in the quiet of being alone and having their own individuality.

Night Teacher feat. Allen Tate – St. Augustine

‘St. Augustine’ then pulls off dreaminess in its own way, with an acoustic guitar and raw vocals. With these two sounds in the forefront, this track creates an absolutely somber atmosphere. Also, its mix allows each sound to stand out. As it moves forward, there is the addition of a bass guitar and some strummed chords. Each is sparsely used in a way that creates a strong beat, though this beat moves forward slowly instead of rushing. That being said, this is only for part of the song, and the main guitar line and vocals make up most of it. Also, Allen Tate’s vocal harmonies fill things out amazingly and work so smoothly with Night Teacher’s. This track is about love, but more so about accepting that change and growth are still necessary. It’s about being able to love someone without getting locked in one place and instead moving forward instead of being held back.
