It can be difficult in life to let go of relationships that we know are no longer serving us. The mental warfare that we often go through in toxic relationships can be so straining on the mind, heart, body and soul. We try to listen to our lovers’ words, confused and manipulated by actions that don’t quite follow course. These heart wrenching experiences, and more are encapsulated through Monokino’s new track ‘Baby.’
Created by the Dutch the pop composer and visual artist George van Wetering, Monokino is a musical work that embodies the essence of alternative rock/pop pup/electronic music that we’ve been loving lately. Taking over the music scene in both North America and China, Monokino has been seen performing at top music festivals like China’s Strawberry Festival to SXSW in the United States. Their music magnetizes audiences to listen and earn for more, which is exactly what ‘Baby’ did to us.
Regarding the inspiration points for the track, Monokino accredits ‘Baby’ to not being enough for someone in a relationship. Monokino states, “I was never enough for someone who claimed that I was her one and only. She often wanted to be alone, but when I was gone, it was not good either. Some days I was too feminine, other days just too masculine. People like Billy – in a speeding car – would have let go a long time ago already for sure.”
This theme is showcased throughout the piece with enticing guitar riffs and breakdowns throughout the piece. The overall rock/electric feel summarizes all the emotion that Monokino felt in this past relationship, articulating it perfectly through musical elements. They cry out, speaking out how they want this relation to move to the next level, to move past where it sits right now. They want things to move back to a safer place.
Monokino sings, “Baby, where you wanna go tonight? I’m driving in a danger zone…”
‘Baby’ sets forth a message that most of us can relate to. Everyone deals with a toxic relationship that leaves our heads spinning in circles. Though we may urn for something so bad, so urgently, life does not always go our way. Listen to ‘Baby’ if you’re in search of an electrifying track with a deep message.
