Pharaohs is a duo created by Kendall James and Brett Sellwood. If you’re a fan of music that blends upbeat rhythms and laidback sound design, topped by vocally led tunes, then “Fable” will be right up your alley. Pharaohs delivers a heady electronic piece that is tasteful in both its synthesized production and well executed vocal lead.
The production and songwriting is really well done. The Australian duo has produced a very solid tune that offers intimate lyrics of longing and the navigating we find ourselves doing in relationships over a four-on-the-floor beat. EQ’d piano and synthesizers create a nice bed of introverted vibes for the late night electronic fans.
The song does a great job also adding cool drum effects at different sections of the song and structures itself to also give space and openness for the lead vocals to take center stage. The hook reminds me of the trance tunes we used to get from Armin Van Buuren’s A State of Trance. There’s something very authentic about this tune and Pharaohs is able to deliver a piece that is serviceable in both speakers and headphones due to its intimate nature.
The music and vocals are both very well produced and performed and Pharaohs is very self-aware and intentional of the sound he’s going for with “Fable”. In today’s trance and electronic music, many artists do too much or overcompensate by overproducing and crowding the sound spectrum with too many sounds, losing its meditative and subtle nature. Pharaohs doesn’t fall into that trap.
Whether there is someone on your mind or you’re just looking to escape from the present moment, “Fable” manages to provide both nostalgia and freshness that will satisfy your ears.
