Bad Love /// The Long War

“Bad Love” is the newest single from the Canadian band The Long War. Based out of Vancouver, the band is about to release their second album titled, “Under a Heavy Sky,” on October 22. They also released “Deeper Blue,” a previous single also promoting the new album.

This rock song is extremely melodic as the guitars and vocals blend perfectly. The guitar and vocals lead in the introduction, which sounds like a good morning. The electric amplification of the lead guitar, with the smallest amount of distortion doesn’t overpower the song, it molds into the track nicely. The guitar also features an echo effect, commonly used in Experimental Rock. The drums come in with the bass, and the keyboard adds more melodies.

The chorus repeats the lyrics, “Had enough, bad love.” This alternative sound is very catchy, the whole song is well written and well recorded. The guitar carries much of the song without being overpowering, and also the lead singer’s tenor voice is soothing without becoming too hazy.

In the bridge section, things change to sound more open, with the lyrics “you had a burden to bear, carried it well.” The song concludes with a statement outro featuring all the instruments, and two final repetitions of “bad love.” Overall the song is uplifting even though the lyrics are somewhat melancholy. The overall mood of the song is positive, because despite this “Bad Love” they’re able to keep moving forward.

There is an album release show at The Fox Cabaret in Vancouver, also on October 22.
