Artist Interview: “Cherry Bomb” by Alexander James Rodriguez

Q: You’ve accomplished so many things and you’re only 14! What has been the most memorable moment in your journey as both and actor and musician so far?

AJ: Hey guys! Thank you for having me on here. I think for acting it has to be booking my first-ever voice over job at age 7 for the Netflix show ‘Bee and Puppycat’ which I still voice today, and also recently I learnt fight choreography on the movie ‘Replica.’ It took 2 hours to learn as every detail matters. You have to be so careful not to actually make contact with the other actor. With my music, I would say recording my first song ‘My Crew’ at age 12 and then winning a Hollywood Music in Media Award for it – was wild!

Q: Not only can you sing and act, but you’re also a fantastic swimmer with hopes of competing in Junior Olympics. If you had to choose one thing to do for the rest of your life – music, acting, or swimming – which one do you think you would choose and why?

AJ: Oh, wow that’s a tough question. I love each of them. I think I’d choose singing though because it gives me the opportunity to tour and meet people along the way. I love to sing live and be out there. Touring means you can dip into different countries and cultures – visit cities and explore. I hope to tour very soon. The other thing is I can sing in a movie, or perform on a soundtrack, so I can get the best of both worlds that way!

Q: You’ve had the amazing opportunity to act in many well-known shows and films including a long-term roll on the popular Netflix series ‘Bee and Puppycat’. What has been one of your favorite memories on a set and which show/movie was it for?

AJ: Thank you, I have been really fortunate to stay busy with acting. I love working on ‘Bee and Puppycat’, the team are amazing. When I was around 10, I worked on a video game for X-Box. We were using motion capture and I had to pretend to ride a dragon, which was crazy in itself, but then we had another dragon chasing us, which was actually a tennis ball on a pole. I had 3 hours of school on set as well that day where I had to try and write with my mo-cap suit on… not easy!

Q: Your song ‘Cherry Bomb’ is incredibly catchy and upbeat. What would you say your favorite part of the song is?

AJ: That’s so nice of you to say. It was my favorite to record. I think my favorite part is using my falsetto voice. It kicks in around the beginning of the chorus. ‘Cherry Bomb’ has allowed me to use quite a few vocal techniques which is a lot of fun in the studio to do. I also love all the positive response to the song and music video.

Q: You were born in Spain before moving to Los Angeles. How do you think your home country has influenced who you are today?

AJ: I miss being in Marbella. I am definitely Spanglish! The easy-going culture of Spain has influenced me and being so close to the Mediterranean I have been able to experience some of the best European foods. I am back and forth quite a lot – I love visiting Rome, Paris and of course London too.

Q: You have many adoring fans out there. Is there anything you’d like to say to them?

AJ: Yes, thank you for sticking with me and continuing to follow my journey. We have some amazing things in store for everyone from now and well into 2022, and I can’t wait to share them all with you.
