Pulsator /// A Sudden Burst of Colour

A Sudden Burst of Colour is a Scottish band that makes atmospheric post rock music that you can dance to. With “Pulsator”, the band has created a wonderful ride through sound waves that is worthy of recognition.

“Pulsator” is a post rock/electronic instrumental song that has hints of Explosions in the Sky and Tycho while still maintaining its own unique voice. There’s a visual element to the composition as it takes you on a journey through its structural design of vocal-less musical storytelling. The energy is palpable and the dynamic range creates space for a series of moods, suited for car therapy, walks, exercise, or any sort of multi-tasking.

The song begins with a four on the floor beat and effected electric guitars washed in the background. Synthesizers puslate and fade in as the reverberation spreads all the accompanying sounds until a break of the panned guitars performing emotive riffs. The beat comes in and it’s a nice relaxed vibe that fuses meditative and dance. The rhythm section is full of life but the stylistic production allows the mid and high ends to embody the dream rock quality that feels nourishing.

Near the three minute mark, the song builds with the drums picking up their fills and hit frequency, ultimately leading into an outro with distorted guitars that feels a lot more rock n roll, which is a nice choice, allowing the song to have an extra layer to its personality that prevents it from being too repetitive or mundane by the time it hits its finality at 4:24.

This is a very talented collective with strong musicianship as we look forward to what’s next Sudden Burst of Colour are a talented trio who have their sound down really well. For fans of atmospheric, energetic rock music – you’re in for a treat with “Pulsator”.
