Amidst the continuation of the pandemic, a lot of us have lost the drive to embark on new projects, pursue work ventures or just complete daily tasks. It’s been hard to get motivated these past few years with so much negativity in the air, but alas, we can always turn to music for that extra umph to lift our spirits. 21-year-old UK artist ELENA captures the essence of optimism and overcoming life challenges through her track “Dreaming.”
ELENA, or Elena Benocci, studied musical theatre for most of her life, but recently realized that she wanted to explore a different form of artistry. In 2021, ELENA joined forces with The Inscape Studios and began dabbling in songwriting. She dove into songwriting after the tragic death of two of her grandparents at the beginning of that year.
Being able to use writing as an outlet was something that truly helped ELENA grieve and heal in her own way. She says, “accepting things happen with no reason or rhyme, whether happy or not you learn to grow. This doesn’t mean the situation didn’t hurt or wasn’t heart breaking, it was allowing myself to feel the emotion and move forward.”
From this, she wrote her debut EP Enough Love, which showcases the standout “Dreaming.” From the beginning of the track, we feel the hopeful and positive vibes that are created. Supposedly mentioning a past lover, ELENA hints to dreamy feelings that she once felt with someone from her past. She talks about how those times were out-of-this-world, how they stunned her and left her excited for the future.
ELENA continues throughout the song revealing how no matter if she’s a work, or at home, she can’t stop dreaming and being excited for the future. She sings, “I’ll just keeping dreaming, dreaming, I’ll be here dreaming, dreaming…”
