Q: I love the vibe behind “Facelift”; it releases on 4/20 and references the “holiday” for smokers all around the world. What was your favorite part in creating this track?
CMFRT: Shooting the visual for Facelift and receiving the final edit has definitely been a favorite of mine. Shoutout Bluntlung for the amazing work he’s put in to his craft he’s next up for sure.
Q: The two of you met in St. Louis, Missouri. I’m curious, how is the music scene in St. Louis?
CMFRT: It’s a melting pot of music! Though predominantly trap/hip hop, we are an array of genres from jazz to R&B, soul and everything in between.
Q: “Facelift” is the perfect club song; it’s impossibly catchy and fun to listen to! Who are your biggest musical influences?
CMFRT: As of recently I’ve been listening to a lot of Baby Keem, Yeat and A$AP Ant, though my biggest influences would have to be Kanye West and Andre 3000.
Q: Do you remember when you first fell in love with music? Did you have a musical family growing up?
CMFRT: The first time I listened to Outkast as a kid. My brother played me Speakerboxxx/The Love Below and that’s what did it for me.
Q: The production on “Facelift” is near flawless! Walk us through your production and writing process in creating “Facelift”.
CMFRT: The melody is a flipped sample titled “Tardema” by the Rias Orchestra. Jaheem had created the first part of the beat, and when he sent me the beat I mixed it down, added a different 808 and thought it would be dope to add a more chopped and screwed section to the beat to give it more flavor. We originally called the beat “hurt”. After that I happened to be with Jay Coast (the vocalist) one day, he asked me to show him some beats and hurt came up! He laid down the first section of the track at his crib, which is how Facelift came to be. We went to a studio in St. Louis to get a professional recording/mix and that’s when he did the rest!
Q: What has been a favorite memory of yours so far as artists?
CMFRT: For everyone involved it has definitely been being semi-finalists in the International Music Video Awards, but personally my favorite memory so far has been performing. It’s an exhilarating feeling to be up on stage, something that you can’t really replicate.
Q: I’m loving the upbeat vibe to “Facelift.” Do you have any projects you are currently working on that you can tell us about?
CMFRT: Yes! I am releasing another single on June 17th called Gangsta Party with Jay Coast and frequent collaborator Dareios! It’s a summer jam for sure which will have a visual attached to it. Aside from that I have a LOT of music in the works that I’m keeping on the hush for now.
Q: Any parting words to your fans?
CMFRT: 2K FOR LIFE!
