Just when you thought every musical idea had been done, electric duo Moontwin blows every expectation out the water with their latest single, “With The Birds.” The song is a sultry mix of jazz, dream pop, and lofi, with clever lyrics spoken in a completely mesmerizing atmosphere. Moontwin’s remarkable talent for creating unique music shines flawlessly on “With The Birds.”
Moontwin is the virtual duo of singer-songwriter Maple Bee (otherwise known as Melanie Garside) and Zac Kuzmanov, the founder of the popular alternative radio station XRaydio. The two live over 1700 miles apart (Cornwall, UK, to Plovdiv, Bulgaria), yet distance doesn’t halt their creative outlook one bit. Although virtually connecting has been the norm for the past two-and-a-half years, Bee and Kuzmanov have created music this way long before.
The electrifying track that is “With The Birds,” begins with a hushed electronic instrumental in the background, almost sounding like the beginning of a David Lynch film. Shortly after, subtle drums and piano arrive, creating a distorted reality that is so fun to be a part of. Maple Bee’s poetic lines are spoken over the simple yet captivating instrumental, and as the chorus begins, the once jazzy tune grows into much more.
“With The Birds” is a genre-fusing journey that truly belongs in a movie. Moontwin’s distance makes their music even that more enthralling. Although miles apart, the two take their individual musical influences and ways of creating to make something that is not heard in the music industry today.
