“Meine Liebe” is an EP by alternative artist Mortal Prophets. Each song is an alternate version of the ”Original Found Recording”, a main melodic motif that they all repeat, although altered. This recording sounds like an older recording of a woman with a small piano part. Mortal Prophets is led by John Beckmann.
After each track, more layers of instruments and changes to the previous version are added. This EP is similar to a collection of remixes for one song, but also is very unique sound wise. The EP is mostly electronic and dance music with distortion, drum machines and keyboards intensifying the melody and tone.
The main melody is altered minimally at the start, but then the alterations and effects start to take full control. The vocals sound echoes like from a horror film. The tracks give off a haunting feel of old memories and darkness combined with dark dance music.
Mortal Prophets displayed creativity creating five different versions of the recording, six including the original version. Each version gets more intense and darker, with “Titanic Last Waltz”, the final version being almost frighteningly intense with a harsh tone. The intense dissonance and effects transforms the recording into a more heavy explosion of sound. Each song on the EP is unlike the previous ones except for the main melody serving as the foundation. “Meine Liebe” can mean “my love” in German.
Mortal Prophets next project is “The Confessions of a Sword Swallower”, to be released later this year. Check out their other releases on Spotify, including “New Breed”, a recent single.
