Yesterday, 11/28/2024, Connor Douglas Ferguson dropped the melancholic track ‘Forever Blue’. This single and the 4 others shared in this list provide a lot of emotion as December comes around the corner.
Connor Douglas Ferguson – Forever Blue
‘Forever Blue’ is an emotionally loaded brand-new release that tackles the topic of mental health poignantly. The baritone vocals play with a tone that’s full and soft at the same time, and their layering stands out well. On top of that, the guitar in the instrumentation is mixed in several layers to beautifully fit in both ears. There are also some atmospheric synths that make a dreaminess. Lyrically, it tackles mental health in a realistic and relatable way. It shares feelings of seeing the world and things around oneself with a jaded lens. This is a perfect release as November fades into the cold emotion of December.
Joey Sachi Ft. AKINAT – 7 Seconds
‘7 Seconds’ has a dreamy lo-fi sound with vocals added to create an emotional experience. There’s a dialogue placed in the beginning to add an introspective nature that cuts into the main track with that sense. Though it is lo-fi and not too much of a rush, the music has a captivating dancey synth bounce. Instrumentally, the mix is dynamic to really throw the brain into the musicality. The vocals sound emotional and raw, but they’re produced in a way that makes them fit the synth sound of the instrumentation. Then there are the lyrics, which honestly feel very poetic and interpretive. This is done in a way that holds the listener sit with the introspectiveness of the sound.
Jordan Raf – Maybe I’m Wrong
‘Maybe I’m Wrong’ may just have the most raw and melancholy sound on this list. The guitar has a raw buzz and fits the rawness of the production. It has quick strums that bounce in and out, and the percussion is softer-paced. As things move on other musical elements such as more strings are introduced, and it makes things come to life well. It definitely has a folk basis, but it has a bit of an emo spin in the partial mumble of the vocals. Lyrically, it explores the idea of being wrong in an emotional way. But it also talks about falsehoods in trends, the rapid changing of the world and culture, and fears over what’s to come next.
Chris Wenner – Too Bad
‘Too Bad’ is a folksy soul-filled track with a country twang and jazz influences. It has a nostalgic sound in a way that’s made fresh and new. The acoustics and bounce in the instrumentation give it a bit of that country, and the vocals hit a bit of a 70s and 80s sound but have a folk-like rasp. Overall, the instrumentation and vocals play together in a beautiful way to build a full sound. The lyrics play into a story of connections lost and having to process that. It’s about loss and dealing with the feelings that come from those who have walked away. Overall, it’s about having to let go.
Lavloop – Not Like That
‘Not Like That’ is here to add energy to the emotional mix. The synthy instrumentation gives a lot of energy and a bounce to it, and it stands out as a dance track. It’s exciting and fun and makes you want to hit the dancefloor, but then the vocals in the first verse are softer and emotional. This is cut in with a catchy chorus with repetition and some other sections where they’re more percussive and energetic. One thing that stands out is how dynamic this track is between sections. The lyrics explore perceptions that come from others. A sight of strength from the outside that collides with inner pain. It then gets into how perception from others affects self-perception. The exploration has a look into pain and hopefulness, and it closes with a discovery of self-understanding.
