Fall into pure emotion with Carrying Torches’ latest release ‘Good in Blue’!
‘Good in Blue’ is an alternative rock track with some light distortion and smooth vocals. The first portion of the track has a great build with moderate pacing, with guitars cutting in about half a minute in. This cut-in gives a rise in energy, and then it raises for a powerful chorus at around a minute. There’s enough energy in this track for a nice rush of sound, but it’s also well-paced. This pacing allows the melody to stand out well in the vocals. Lyrically, this track is a gut punch of emotion wrapped in poetic storytelling. The first verse immediately depicts a funeral, fireworks reminding the voice of the track of how someone lost once lived. It also explores the story of a girl who would eventually be let down by someone who couldn’t stick around in a world both developed. Before the final chorus, the last verse states, “The lights were down in the living room / When I realized / I took your life from you.” The story builds in a way that gives room for interpretation but depicts vivid scenes exploring mental struggles, love, and loss.
Carrying Torches is a Kankakee, Illinois-located 5-piece indie rock band that consists of members Justin Daniel, Misty Okroi, Mike Bass, Jon Paul Gray, and Taylor Smith. They recorded ‘Good in Blue’ at ABG Studios with engineering help from Seth Henderson. Additionally, Mike at the Foxboro helped with the mixing and mastering of the piece. On top of the single release, they also crafted a music video to further explore the narrative of the music. This is a strong release that came off of a couple of other strong releases. Let’s just wait and see how music, emotion, and storytelling could mix in the next release.
