I’m Only Me When I’m With You /// Cheryl Craigie

Cheryl Craigie’s cover of Taylor Swift’s ‘I’m Only Me When I’m With You’, goes to show that an existing work can become something new!

‘I’m Only Me When I’m With You’ is more than just a cover, it’s a reimagining, and it’s a track that adds more diversity to an already diverse discovery. This track works with piano, which lines up with a lot of her discography, but other tracks work with electronic sounds or a more string basis. It takes the original and tones the energy back, taking on a slower tempo and ballad-like style. There are also brighter synths in the background that add atmosphere, and the drums hold the pacing well but add some great rhythm. The change in sound makes the cover original and unique, as it sounds more grown-up.

Cheryl Craigie has been singing since she was a child, but recently she jumped into being a musician who works with a diverse range of genres and sounds. So far, she’s produced eight songs with Eric Goldberg, three of those being original tracks. Cheryl’s goal is to connect with audiences with music that is sincere and tells emotional tales of life and love. Her cover of ‘I’m Only Me When I’m With You’ goes to show that she can take existing lyricism and put her own spin on things with musicianship alone.
