A creative force in every sense, Ukraine-based multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and musical visionary Magua has spent a lifetime curating their own distinct sound and garnering the attention of fans across the globe for it. As they step deeper into the limelight with every stage of their career, their latest debut proves a genuine reflection of their abilities to make a piece their own as they release a cover of Father John Misty’s immortal 2012 classic Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings, recomposed entirely through their eyes. Inspired by Misty’s iconic KEXP performance, Magua began experimenting with the tune and reimagining it through their palette until feeling so compelled to share their work with the world.
As the music begins, an explosive collection of percussive pulsations and grungy electric guitar riffs quickly set the mood as we feel the world of the music build around us in real time. As a resonant harmonica plays in the interlude, we are completely immersed in the artist’s creative vision and begin to nod intuitively to their melody. Crying out in a sonorous timbre, they begin the narrative with the familiar line “Jesus Christ, girl, what are people gonna think?” and from there the track takes flight.
The artist leaves us with the feeling that they not only drew from an incredible body of work but made it their own as they showcase their prowess for unfiltered enthusiasm from start to finish. Having accomplished so much with this latest release, fans can only wait with anticipation to see what could possibly be coming from this artist’s mind and studio next.
