Explore the back-and-forth of love and reconnection with Laughing Cats’ new single ‘GYB’.
‘GYB’ is an indie pop track with a soft production value and a nice feeling dreamy vibe and inspiration from the 60s and 80s. It also has a sound that’s a bit reminiscent of 2000s pop anthems at certain times. Overall, it has a really nice flow. On top of that, it does well at keeping its specific production value overarching through both the lyrics and instrumentation. This track was written with vulnerability and empowerment in mind. That translates lyrically by biting back at a back-and-forth relationship. In this, it explores the narrative of both parties through two vocalists. The lyrics are well written in a way that gets into a reconnection between past lovers, or it could be seen as a track of someone finding power and moving forward from a former relationship.
Laughing Cats is a Los Vegas-based duo that consists of former Third Eye Blind guitarist Tony Fredianelli and lyricist Lauren Schiff. This duo came about as Fredianelli was ghost-collaborating with others and was discovered by Schiff through her husband who is an asset manager. She connected with him and their sound ended up clicking after a slow start. This duo works with an eclectic range of influences, and this spans genres and decades. A lot of their inspiration comes from the 60s and 80s, but it’s done in a modern way. This blend of sounds has created something unique, and it’s interesting to ponder the future of their discography. ‘GYB’ is the second released single off of the upcoming album “FUNNY MONEY” so keep an eye out!
