Jules & The Howl /// Boys Club

Los Angeles-based new wave glam rock outfit Jules & The Howl have made a quick impression on their fanbase since hitting the ground running with their unique style of cathartic, blues-inspired, upbeat rock a few short years ago. Already a crown jewel in the Southern California underground scene, the project continuously reaches new heights with every album. With today marking the release of their newest single “Boys Club” they continue to find new ways to showcase their ever-increasing versatility in new and triumphant ways.

The piece begins with an explosion of synth instrumentals and percussive reverberance as the artist’s vocals enter with the accompaniment to begin the narrative with the opening line “I want you to stand up, burst through all the noise. Want you to stand up, use your voice.” We feel an immediate kick of adrenaline as the music builds and the rhythm intensifies with every bar.

A lyrically motivated piece to its core, the single shines as an anchoring example of the artist’s deepest philosophical views of breaking down the walls that stand between them and their ambitious goals. Lines like “I am anything but weak, breaking walls and making history” remind us all of just how far we can go with the right mentality.

Serving as an empowering reminder of our own personal agency, the single advocates for taking control of our own future and not allowing our ceilings to be determined by those trying to limit our worth. Reminiscent of the idealistic views of early punk and modern existential motivation embodied in this anthem, we feel a sense of motivation within their music.
