Singer-songwriter Mark Remmington crafts a sweeping, ghostly tune with his single “Put My Bones Into The Ground.” From start to finish, this latest release from Remmington’s “12 Weeks” album remains consistently eerie thanks to haunting piano, subtle jangles and raspy vocals.
Twinkling piano keys play along with the pitter patter of drums as Remmington’s whispery vocals set a dreary tone. “Goodbye my life,” Remmington echoes as a gloomy, somber mood begins to gather. The essence of life is fleeting on this track, leaving the listener with the sense of foreboding demise.
Remmington’s vocals turn raspy with each cutting rendition of the chorus. In tandem, a sharper edge to the melody gives his gravelly vocals even more bite. After each plea of “put my bones into the ground,” Remmington wearily whispers “let peace be found” as the keyboard emits a soft, warbling noise.
Across this track, a morose ambience settles in. With the exception of the jauntier chorus sections, Remmington’s piano cascades along with a subtle flow. Combined with the sprinkles of drums, the listener is lulled into the sense that everything is drifting away. There is no fighting the current that sweeps you along, threatening to drown you in this song’s gathering gloom. Melodically, Remmington does not throw a life preserver.
“Put My Bones Into The Ground ” is not upbeat, nor cheery. It is a rainy day piano track that largely trudges along with a solemn purpose. However, Remmington gives it life with strategically placed, cutting vocals that rip through all of the darkness.
