President Street is a band from Melbourne, Australia that was formed through random collective meetings. Each member comes from a different walk of life, but that’s exactly what makes their sound dynamic. “Heartbreak Player” is a welcomed introduction to those who are seeking innovative dance music.
“Heartbreak Player” is a fun upbeat electronic tune that has pop appeal sensibilities, yet is also tasteful for the underground raves. The four on the floor rhythm and pulsating bass lay the groundwork for the UK garage/house groove but the songwriting is what separates it from most other songs from its genre. You cannot deny the catchy hook and great vocal performances throughout, which is worthy of applause in both the performance and songwriting.
There is plenty of pop appeal in the “Heartbreak Player”, but what allows it to sound unique is how President Street sequences the record, by never allowing your expectations to get satisfied with genre stereotypes. When it begins, you could assume the number will gravitate towards indie-pop or even some rock/piano ballad, but it’s how elements are fused that makes the song feel rich.
The vocal performance is really impressive and as the song concludes through its last hook, you can really hear the vocal prowess and range from the lead vocals, allowing the song to reach its apex in a satisfying fashion.
Music isn’t short of any love songs, but President Street delivers a fun song that still feels fresh. We will definitely be keeping an eye out on what this band continues to make going forwards.
