One of the quirky charms of life is not knowing where your own path may lead. Singer-songwriter Noah Solt’s path led him to a yearlong voyage on the high seas as a deckhand. Along the way, he wrote what would become his debut single, “Let’s Make A Fire.”
The atmospheric quality of this folk rock tune hovers between hushed tones of isolation and burning desperation. For starters, an airy, acoustic driven sound, followed by Solt’s vapory vocals, come together for a round of subtle ruminations on a metaphorical flame. Proposing “let’s make a fire and light up this room,” Solt invites the warmth of companionship to fend off the chill of loneliness. As we later find out, this alludes to an incendiary quest over the span of a lifetime.
For Solt, everything boils down to the fickleness of a flame. In between the fledgling glow in a tent of tinder and a roaring campfire, you work to keep that flame from being snuffed out. In the context of this tune, Solt is in search of someone with a compatible, internal flame.
“All of my life I’ve been searching for some kind of someone,” Solt proclaims. That someone needs to “burn just as brightly” as he does. Matching that same intensity in one another is the ultimate goal. However, there is a profound emptiness as Solt concludes the chorus with “now that you’re here, I don’t know what to do with our time.”
Underneath it all, there is a crackling, folk rock melody that arises. “Let’s Start A Fire,” Noah Solt’s riveting debut, is as inviting as a fireplace on a cold, winter’s night.
