The slow catchy music that helps us fixate on the wound of love is an alt/ rock band Lost// Youth with a new EP “Chasing Shadows.” They consist of Alanna Joy (lead vocals), Charlie Charles (Bass), Faghri Hendricks (Electric Guitar) and Teddy Frazer (Drums), “Chasing Shadows” sounds somewhat like The Cardigans and Belly (but a bit more docile).
“Last Time” is a track to look out for on the EP. Its frenetic, jittery fumes has a hip swagger and the cool tones of heartbreak pluck away in an ashen daze of Lost// Youth.
The bands name hints at a certain ageless feeling that we can’t muscle any longer. Yet as it slowly seeps away from the grief of our lips the songs of Lost// Youth in “Chasing Shadows” emit a nostalgic recourse for redemption the only way musicians know how or best, an EP with the gnarly teeth marks and coffee stains of another time where there was still innocence and purity as youth still contains those things until they don’t.
In “Too Late” Alanna Joy battles the muses of her torment and we live it in each instant as she bemoans that it’s “maybe we’re just a fantasy but you made me believe../one day you’ll call me said you made up you’re mind/ you’ve always loved me…it’s too late.”
The art of Lost// Youth is in its chimeric stories of love, it’s music of love and heartbreak. The guitar work is like a phantom biding adieu to the forlorn days we are being mesmerized by. This plays on like a 90’s alternative album one could listen to all the way through to the end without a skip to the next song.
