Are you interested in the same old, boring, manufactured hip hop or are you ready for something new? “Baddest Bitch,” the latest single from electric New York rapper Vala, is a boisterous self declaration that could only come from a New York rapper.
New York does not need any more rappers. It is the literal birthplace of hip hop, as well as arguably the greatest artists and lyricists the genre has ever seen. Hip hop IS New York. New Yorkers don’t do it for fame and fortune, they do it for the culture. So if you’re gonna make it here, you need to bring something new to the table. Vala is Exhibit A. Her flow is loose, unchained, and unpredictable; unbothered by trivial things like beats or bar lines. Her rhymes are captivating and keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. She spits KRS-One bars with a laidback Big Daddy Kane coolness. She’s like if Ms. Lauryn Hill was in the Wu-Tang Clan. When she’s in the booth she makes her own rules and forces you to follow them.
“Baddest Bitch” is about what you think it is. Vala stands up for her fellow females who feel unable to be loud and proud. She stands in the face of sharks and politely asks, “motherfucker, who you think you’re fucking with?” She’s a lyrical warrior fighting for herself and the billions of other women who are just fed up. Her pen is so ferocious, you’ll be begging for the sword.
Vala truly is a bad bitch, plain and simple. She is a one-of-a-kind fish in a huge pond, a diamond hidden in the rough. Her creativity has the potential to turn New York hip hop on its head, and “Baddest Bitch” is one hell of a game plan.
