Rhys Tranter’s latest track ‘Call My Name’ is here to give listeners a rush of warmth and nostalgia!
‘Call My Name’ takes 80s synth influences and mixes them with modern sonics and some more recent indie pop influences vocally. The synths specifically sound straight out of the 80s, bright and just a bit buzzy, filling the soundspace with warmth and wonder. At about 01:40, the sounds seem to distort and fade before switching up the energy. Then the sound evolves again at around 02:25. The way things flow, especially in the instrumental production, gives a bit of a vaporwave atmosphere. This isn’t just a simple track, it’s a sonic cinematic experience filled with nostalgia and wonder. Lyrically, this track comes from real-life experience mixed with a joking point at chauvinist themes that can be seen in a lot of 80s music. Tanner would play the chorus on guitar, and his wife got it stuck in her head. From there, Tranter knew he had to make a full song. At face value, it feels like a track of yearning for another with some vivid poetic imagery.
Rhys Tranter is a Newcastle, Australia-located indie musician who bends genre by using indie, folk, pop, and alternative influences. ‘Call My Name’ is his most upbeat pop-centric song to date, and that was done on purpose. For this release, he garnered production help from Animal Farm Records’ Mat Leppanen. The two creators would take ideas and bounce them back and forth until the piece was finalized, bringing the flair of both artists into the finished product. This track adds something new to Tranter’s discography, so let’s see where the musical evolution flows next!
