E / S \ C stands for electric / sonic / council. It’s a music project from Minneapolis producer/composer Jim Bjorklun. With “Hypnosis, Jim creates a pleasant soundwave experience that will get your feet moving and your mind drifting. With his expressed intention for wanting to take electronic instrumental music to a personal and intimate space, “Hypnosis” very much achieves that.
“Hypnosis” is an appropriate title for the electronic tune that is driven by its formless composition and rhythm driven foundation that stems from the club/lounge rave scenes that put people in trances on the millions of dance floors across the globe. E / S \ C not only hits the mark but is clearly competent and well versed in the genre, executing with taste and authenticity.
The bouncy synth bass over the four on the flour beat and upbeat hat is the signature of this sound and it’s this groove that is the heart of “Hypnosis.” The meditative escapism comes from the synth layering, marimbas, narrative vocal ad-libs, all being triggered methodically in different sections of the song. Delayed notes of pads and sequences create a subtle wall of sound panned out that feels ethereal and dreamy. You can already see yourself two stepping in a Boiler Room set, completely immersed in the tune travelling through the venue. Less is always more with these songs and E / S \ C never oversteps on the production and songwriting.
For fans of dance music that falls along trance, drum and bass, downtempo, and UK garage – “Hypnosis” is just what your night doctor ordered. We very much look forward to hearing what’s next from this talented producer.
