James Bakian is a London singer-songwriter and producer who is already making vulnerable and mature music at the age of 18. “Use Me” flexes his deep house, dance music sensibilities with a cleanly produced tune about having your desire fed.
Synth keys, pads, auto-tuned crafted vocals over the four on the floor rhythm section sets the bed for James’ vocals to be center in the mix as everything is held back with nice reverberation. Mixing singing and rapping, James has fun with the instrumental he’s produced and the energy comes from the nice groove that is executed with the bouncy synth bass and classic garage/deep house drum programming.
When James sings, he has a nice baritone voice that sits well with the R&B style that married so well with the genre in the 90s. At 18, you can see plenty of potential for James as an artist. As a songwriter, he’s also able to write and perform a tasteful and memorable hook that is not over the top for the genre, but still delivers in what choruses are meant to achieve.
Lyrically, on “Use Me” James is also able to admit that he just wants to be used for the sake of feeling something. The song is never overly sexualized at the risk of being corny and James walks the thin line well in delivering a tune that fans can enjoy both musically and lyrically.
“Use Me” shows a lot of potential and we look forward to what else is in store from the 18 year-old artist.
